About 18 months ago I happened to be listening to a Melbourne Christian radio station (is there only one?) when they announced they were the only Melbourne radio station asking people to pray for rain. Hmmm.
A couple of weeks later there was a huge deluge! Our gutters overflowed, water coursed through our property and the bottom of our street flooded. However these were minor inconveniences compared to what people experienced in Gippsland. Roads were damaged. Farms were inundated and there were stock losses, pastures destroyed and fences were washed away. Homes were flooded.
So I sent an email to the Christian radio station suggesting that if we say we believe in an interventionist God then perhaps we should be cautious about publicly encouraging people to pray for rain when the potential outcome was so unpredictable.
I never did receive a reply to my email. Oh well.
